The prodigal son of Tobias, Wisconsin's premier family is coming home, and the town will never be the same. Zach Corbett grew up as a charming rebel with startling blue eyes, who shrugged off responsibilities, letting others – especially his older brother Steve – pick up the slack. Now he's going to put the hard-earned maturity he's gained in eight-and-a-half years away to the ultimate test – a bigger test than even he knows.

Zach's expectations of his homecoming are demolished when a girl named Nell answers the door at his childhood home and announces that she is his daughter, and his brother is raising her as his own child.

Fran Dalton specializes in coming to the rescue, from nursing her father to restoring the jungle-like gardens around Bliss House as part of a community project to renovate the old estate. She's vowed the gardens will be her very last rescue project. But when Zach walks back into Tobias, Fran sees a situation she can't turn her back on.

Too many hearts are at stake. Nell's, Steve and his wife's, Zach's. And maybe even her own.

With a resume that's all over the map, Manhattan-born and bred Kay Aaronson is determined to succeed in film. To get the right background for scenes depicting an 1899 wedding for a pop diva's music video, she takes her crew from New York to Tobias, Wisconsin. Tobias is the hometown of her famous artist grandmother, Dora, who says the town's 19th century mansion, Bliss House, is the perfect setting for the project.

Grandma Dora has another motive for bringing her freewheeling granddaughter to Tobias, though. There, with the help of her first art teacher, Miss Trudi Bliss, Dora hopes to put an end to a years-long rift with her granddaughter caused by a family scandal. The shoot goes well until the temperamental actor playing the groom walks out. Desperate for a substitute, Kay gladly borrows Miss Trudi's oh-so-attractive acquaintance, Rob Dalton.

Rob, a logical numbers man, has been helping with the renovations of Bliss House all summer, as well as handling the budget. His friends and family think Rob's been home in Tobias to help recover from his recent divorce. But he is also struggling with a decision that will turn his future upside down. As Kay becomes involved with Rob – and a dog named Chester – that decision of Rob's will force her to re-examine her feelings about her family, her lifestyle and her priorities.

There couldn't be two people more diametrically opposed, but when they kiss (all for the good of the shoot, of course) those opposites ignite … and Tobias, Wisconsin is headed for another wedding.

Suz has long been attracted to Annette's brother, Max. But he's always treated her as surrogate little sister, apparently unaffected by the sizzle she feels. The last thing she wants is a big brother, especially one who seems determined to play that role to the entire world. But a kiss at the wedding reception makes her aware that the sizzle is not all one-sided.

With the sale of her business leaving her both with free time and a financial cushion, she is persuaded to stick around Tobias for a while. Maybe it's time to open Max's eyes to who she really is - and who they could be together.

But she's in for a surprise as Max also makes her see herself in a new light.
